  • HOLY CRAP, I QUIT MY JOB

So you know how I had like three jobs?

1- Working for The Man (aka a national retailer) in their Corporate Brands + Packaging division,

2- Being the Owner/Designer/Jill-of-all-trades for MarshMueller,

3- Being a mama to the best little boy ever (although I am biased). This is obviously the most important job, and I’m not sure why I put it at #3, but I haven’t finished my coffee, so blame that.

Go ahead and cross out #1.

    Corporate Zombie no more!

    I know, right?!

    What was I thinking?!

In all honesty, #1 was seriously the best job I ever had. My team consisted of three people (including myself), and together, we did an insurmountable amount of work I absolutely LOVED. Turns out I have a knack for branding. My team members kicked ass, too. I learned a TON from them, and learned enough graphic design skills to be dangerous (now I have no excuse for Crappy Photoshopping!).

“But, wait. You just said it was the best job ever. Why the hell did you quit?”

There were a number of factors, but it really all boiled down to three things (wow, I like things in threes today):

1- Daycare for The Boy raised their rates,

2- We were already strapped financially due to Daycare and Sallie Mae,

3- My business is at a point where I can’t grow it unless I devote more time to it, and something had to give. I was already working just about every evening from 8pm-12am (sometimes 1am), and some weekends. I don’t require much sleep, so I’ve been able to function this way for a few years now.

What was also happening is my penchant for fabric was starting to make my business a little stagnant and eating into my profit. Translation: I was obtaining fabric quicker than I could sew through it. Seriously, when you have to send your customers to your Flickr set because you have SO much fabric to choose from, something’s gotta give. You can’t make any money from the fabric you bought if it’s just sitting on the shelf.

    So here we are.

Today is my first day where I only have two jobs.

There is so much to do, and I can feel myself get a little distracted with it all, but, like with any job, I’m going to do what worked best for me: MAKE A LIST.

Wish me luck, and if you need baby items, something sewn for you, or need some new art for your home, think of me:
