ARTIST STATEMENT
This collection invites you to look deep within to help you realize you are stronger than you think.
You've been through some shit in your time on this planet.
Some of those things may not have deeply affected you, while other things cut so deeply, or sank you to the bottom that you feared you would never see the light in things again.
But you are here! You are reading this now!
Humans are resilient as hell. We can feel shattered in a gazillion pieces and can reassemble ourselves, piece by piece. Eventually.
Sometimes the reassembly process means that we've reemerged with slight differences that no one notices.
Other times the process means we put ourselves back together and we are unrecognizable. Our routines are changed, our relationships forever different.
But that does not mean you are broken.
Even if you are still in the process of putting yourself back together, or you've had multiple bouts of being let down, lost, or dropped...and now you have to solve the puzzle of what piece goes where...you are not broken.
We've all felt broken.
But piece by piece, shard by shard, we put ourselves back together.
This project was inspired by resiliency, the human condition, and love. It was also inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, Emily McDowell, and Austin Kleon.
*Ok, maybe we are all broken a little bit.
In 2023, I launched and funded my first Kickstarter project during their #Make100 initiative.
But I only painted enough paintings for the project backers (about 35).
I launched and funded another project in 2024, also during #Make100. After painting the pieces for the project backers, I kept painting.
And kept painting.
And I created 100 different paintings!
View the gallery of each piece below.
