  • You are not broken.

Humans are resilient as hell. We can feel shattered in a gazillion pieces and can reassemble ourselves, piece by piece. Eventually.

Sometimes the reassembly process means that we've reemerged with slight differences that no one notices.

Other times we put ourselves back together and we are unrecognizable. Our routines are changed, our relationships forever different.

But that does not mean you are broken. Even if you are still in the process of putting yourself back together, or you've had multiple bouts of being let down, lost, or dropped...and now you have to solve the puzzle of what piece goes where...

    You are not broken.

But all of us have felt broken at some point in our lives.

And that's what sparked my latest Kickstarter project, Make 100 Original Watercolor Hearts

I may have celebrated my third NED Flanders Day this year (that's where I order myself a cake, get some champagne, and celebrate another year of having kicked cancer's ass), but there are still times where I find new breakage, or discover that an area I thought was repaired actually needs another round of healing.

While those feelings can feel isolating as hell, I know I'm not alone.

    Grief comes in waves.

    Healing does, too.

This project was also inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi. If you haven't heard of this art form, it doesn't hide imperfections, but celebrates them by adding gold, silver or platinum to repaired cracks to display the overall history of the piece.

And just like my own literal scars, I'm not afraid to wear my heart on my sleeve and show them. After all, I literally have a heart tattoo on my sleeve. :)

So if you can relate (and you'd like to collab on a super cool piece of original art with me), give the Kickstarter project a gander. I'd be forever grateful if you backed the project. <3
